The Gamble Plantation is the mansion of Major Robert Gamble and headquarters of an extensive sugar plantation. This is currently the only surviving plantation house in South Florida. The house is open to the public.

Legacy Trail

The path, which starts near Palmer Ranch, was opened in 2008, along a railway line with a long history. The railroad line was utilized from the time it was constructed in 1911 until around the turn of the century.
It runs through and is linked to a number of other paths in Oscar Scherer State Park, before continuing on to Nokomis, where it enters Dona Bay, and then ends at the Venetian Waterway Park. There are 15 wonderful rest stops on the route, as well as stunning scenery to enjoy along the way.

Come out and enjoy the facilities here. They offer walking tours, but I recommend calling ahead to determine whether or not they’ve reopened after Covid. In addition, check out their Beyond the Dark activity. This particular program is not recommended for children, but you can bring your pups with you.
The 23-acre area is located in Palmetto, and it is essentially a school for guide dogs. They breed, raise, and train elite working dogs (guide dogs, service dogs, and skilled companion dogs) and provide life-changing services for people with vision loss, veterans with disabilities, and children with significant challenges in the most up-to-date training facilities.
They rely on private donations, so the highly trained dogs can go to loving homes free of charge.
